CUB SCOUT UNIFORM POLICY

Why do Cub Scouts and Adult Leaders Wear a Uniform?

Uniforms set a standard to be met, promote group spirit and designate equality from the start among members within the group. The Scout uniform is an important part of Scouting. It signifies who we are as an organization and what each of our roles are within the Pack. A group of Scouts in uniform is perceived and treated differently than a group of non-uniformed youth is at public events. For this reason, the Pack requires that each boy have a full uniform and wear it correctly.

What is Considered the Appropriate Uniform?

The appropriate uniform for a Cub Scout varies based on the function or event. For pack meetings and activities, the Cubmaster will direct the appropriate uniform. For den meetings and activities, the Den Leader will direct the appropriate uniform. Pack 75 has three uniform types: (1) Class A, or Dress (the most formal); (2) Class B, or Activity; and (3) Class C, or Casual (the most informal).

CUB SCOUT CLASS A (DRESS) UNIFORM

When do I wear the Class A (Dress) Uniform?

The Dress Uniform is required at all Pack meetings unless otherwise directed by the Cubmaster. It is recommended that Scouts wear the Dress Uniform to school on days of a pack meeting. The Dress Uniform should also be worn to all events where the Pack is participating in or observing a flag ceremony and to any other event where Dress Uniform is requested by the Cubmaster or Den Leader.

What is the Class A (Dress) Uniform?

Pack 75 considers the following an appropriate Dress Uniform –

· Cap – the wearing of a cap is optional, but if worn, it must be the official Cub Scout cap applicable to current rank. If a cap is not worn, hair must be neat and clean.

· Shirt – official Cub Scout shirt with appropriate insignia, emblems and awards (with optional red award vest if desired by Scout).

· Neckerchief and Slide – official neckerchief and slide applicable to current rank.

· Belt – official Cub Scout belt and buckle applicable to current rank (with knife hook and pocketknife if Scout has earned privilege to carry pocketknife).

· Pants – the wearing of the official Cub Scout pants/shorts is optional. If not worn, pants must be clean, unworn and untattered blue jeans, slacks or solid-colored shorts.

· Socks – the wearing of the official Cub Scout socks is optional. If not worn, socks must be clean, unworn and untattered white or blue socks.

· Shoes – clean, unworn and untattered dress shoes, canvas shoes, or tennis shoes.

What Insignia is Needed on the Dress Shirt?

On the right sleeve, the American Flag should be positioned near the top. Below the flag, you may, but are not required to, position a den numeral badge.

On the left sleeve, the Louisiana Purchase Council patch should be positioned near the top. Below the council patch, the pack numerals of 75 should be positioned.

Other badges and insignia should be positioned as required by the Boy Scouts of America.

CUB SCOUT CLASS B (ACTIVITY) UNIFORM

When do I wear the Class B (Activity) Uniform?

The Activity Uniform is required at all Pack activities other than Pack meetings unless otherwise directed by the Cubmaster. The Activity Uniform will typically be worn to camp-outs, while working on service projects and to all events where the Pack or Den is participating as an organized group, as well as to any other event or activity where the Activity Uniform is requested by the Cubmaster or Den Leader.

What is the Class B (Activity) Uniform?

Pack 75 considers the following an appropriate Dress Uniform –

· Cap – the wearing of a cap is optional, but if worn, it must be the official Cub Scout cap applicable to current rank. If a cap is not worn, hair must be neat and clean.

· Shirt – official issued Pack Activity shirt.

· Belt – the Scout may, but is not required, to wear the official Cub Scout belt and buckle applicable to current rank (with knife hook and pocketknife if Scout has earned privilege to carry pocketknife).

· Pants – clean, unworn and untattered pants or shorts as appropriate for activity and weather.

· Socks – clean, unworn and untattered socks of any color.

· Shoes – clean, unworn and untattered tennis shoes (or sandals if appropriate for activity).

CUB SCOUT CLASS C (CASUAL) UNIFORM

When do I wear the Class C (Casual) Uniform?

Casual Dress may be allowed from time to time for Scouting events, as permitted by the Cubmaster or Den Leader.

What is the Class C (Casual) Uniform?

Casual Dress means each Scout may wear the clothes and accessories he desires, as appropriate for the activity and weather.

ADULT LEADER UNIFORM

Why should the Adult Leaders Wear a Uniform?

It is important that the Pack’s adult leaders set an example for the Scouts and dress in a way that promotes respect and attention from the Scouts.

Which Adult Leaders need to Wear a Uniform?

The Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, and Den Leaders should wear a uniform. The uniform is optional, but encouraged, for all other adult leaders.

When should an Adult Leader Wear a Uniform?

Adult leaders should wear a uniform to all pack and den meetings, events and activities, unless casual dress is specified by the Cubmaster or Den Leader.

What is the Adult Leader Uniform?

The adult uniform dress expected by Pack 75 is the following –

· Cap – not required, but if worn should be official Cub Scout adult leader cap or hat.

· Shirt – official Cub Scout shirt with appropriate insignia, emblems and awards, or issued pack activity shirt.

· Neckerchief and Slide – not required, but if worn should be official neckerchief and slide applicable to adult leaders.

· Belt – not required.

· Pants – official Cub Scout pants/shorts or clean, unworn and untattered blue jeans, slacks or solid-colored shorts.

· Socks – if worn, clean, unworn and untattered socks of any color.

· Shoes – clean, unworn and untattered shoes (or sandals if appropriate for activity).

UNIFORM INSPECTION

What is a Uniform Inspection?

A uniform inspection is a review of a Scout's uniform by an Adult Leader that includes scoring of the uniform according to procedures required by the Boy Scouts of America.

When should I expect a Uniform Inspection?

Pack 75 may conduct a uniform inspection at a pack meeting. Den leaders may also conduct an inspection at den meetings.

Is a Particular Score Expected?

To earn the expected 65 point score, a Scout need only have good general appearance; appropriately wear the shirt, neckerchief and slide; have the appropriate insignia on his shirt; and wear either a belt or cap.
